Position Overview

The Group Management Supervisor (GMS) leads agency teams on multiple accounts or one large account with multiple client teams to ensure existing business is successfully managed and grown.  S/he collaborates with the Group Account Director to develop the overall strategic plans and objectives for the account(s).  The GMS also manages/ mentors junior team members on strategy development, presentation, and implementation of various projects.  The GMS plays a central role in business development and Agency management.  This is a senior position within the agency; it requires leadership and superior communication and problem solving skills.  Strong presentation and persuasion skills are also required.


  • Has or can quickly develop a solid understanding of business category trends/developments, and uses this insight to add strategic value to the overall account and to individual projects
  • In depth launch experience and can identify best practices for team ensuring that launch is run smoothly and is seen as a resource for the client team
  • Ensure achievement of forecast by covering known risks and strengthening/ growing the client-agency relationship
  • Ensures alignment between issues, strategies, and tactics
  • Builds commitment to strategy/process within the agency and brand teams
  • Offers strategic solutions that surpass common practice


  • Deeply understands brand insights, customer segmentation, and target needs
  • Steers actionable creative briefs and works with creative team in the evaluation of strategy and execution
  • Manages multi-channel marketing programs (targeted communications, site dev, digital marketing, etc.). Frames key issues facing the client(s) and develops recommended approaches
  • Drives and stewards the brand and power of creative branding

Driving the Business

  • Maximizes Agency revenue; views the larger financial picture and understands impacts on contribution margins and revenue targets
  • Leads cross-functional teams across agency, client and other business partnerships
  • Delivers results-driven ideas grounded in sound strategic thinking, considering the client business needs and challenges
  • Identifies business development opportunities; fosters and generates proposals for incremental business building
  • Supports client(s) in forecasting and development of the budget
  • Leads or supports new business pitches, as needed

Client Relations

  • Develops and maintains excellent client relationships; establishes trust, credibility, and respect of client
  • Creates a visible/ influential presence with, and effectively represents agency POV to clients
  • Effectively leads both account and brand teams
  • Initiates partnerships with internal teams to manage priorities, schedules, and deliverables
  • Travels with/for client as needed


  • Maintains and supports agency management in maintaining a strong, valued presence with clients and within agency
  • Ensures adherence to standards of excellence
  • Coaches and guides junior team members on identifying, planning, and managing key deliverables, activities, budgets, and deadlines for individual projects
  • Ability to organize and run a team. Defines organizational structure of team to ensure efficiencies and provides team with opportunities to learn/grow
  • Appropriately counsels staff on internal and external issues
  • Monitors and evaluates performance of staff (identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for development); does timely and actionable personnel reviews
  • Identifies and helps resolve people/departmental conflict situations


  • 10 – 15 years account experience with an emphasis on healthcare, specialty/biotech drugs or, better still, oncology and/or orphan drugs
  • Entrepreneurial blood type Proven track record of successful client relationships, team building, revenue growth, creative problem solving and team leadership
  • Expertise in the digital world (site, mobile, social)
  • Strong communication skills, excellent writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, initiate change, and collaborate across groups
  • Strong client-service orientation
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comprehensive, strategic and systematic thinker
  • Strong leadership skills shaped by trust and example vs. position on org chart
  • Ability to anticipate needs, changes, problems
  • Must be able/ willing to travel 25%
